because the fuel ignites too early (i.e. during the upstroke of the piston), so it's going AGAINST the motion of the piston which puts stress on everything... you can get cracked pistons, cracked heads, etc. etc. It is induced by a lean air:fuel ratio, heat, & bad gas. This is why overboosting causes detonation... too much air, not enough fuel, and often people exceed the point of optimum efficiency for the turbos which causes the compressed air to get hotter. : Looking to upgrade my TT. I know that detonation is not a good thing, but where does it happen? In the turbos, engine, etc. Is it ECU induced? What will be the "ill" effect if you hit it too much, ruined engine or turbos?
: I'm not familiar with this topic so any info would be appreciated. : Thanks
