: I dont know if your familiar with the Jspec engines, but Japan has this weird law that every 30k miles they have to completly replace the engines in their cars (yeah crazy huh) anyway this means that there are tons of 30k mile engines in Japan that really have no use to the Japaneese. When I lived in Japan, my Skyline had 50k miles on the original engine... I've never heard about that 30k mile law in my life. Maybe you're confusing it with what's known as a "shaken"... a very expensive inspection (every few years or so depending on the kind of vehicle) that all Japanese motorists have to pay (excpet for those who drive the small "K" cars). Often, it can run several of thousands of dollars for these inspections, and as such, many people prefer to simply sell their car for parts or dump their car somewhere. This may be where this crazy "30k mile" notion came from...
