Message	aren't that slow. It seems that a stage IV+ or stage V will hang reasonably with a TT down low, but again, at the end of third on, it is still all over! But he might have had a messed up one too, most TT owners put in mod money or neglect their care in lieu of proper maintainence, thats why it is so hard to find a clean one.
