Message electrical cleaner or something like that. It cleans out build up, and grease pretty well and dries fast. When my pulley drive was leaking oil, it leaked to my alternator also. I went to car wash to spray clean it.... still running :-) I think my dad used disel or WD-40 to clean it.... I was too young and I don't remember....

anyway, I also asked a mechanic about cleaning alternator for the Z, he asked me, "do you stop driving when it rains?" well, you know alternator is at the bottom.
