I posted this late Friday so this is a repost for the weekday crew. :) Alright, first the good news. I got the car on a dyno today and as a baseline run the car made 401 HP to the wheels and 382 ft-lbs of torque at 17 psi. After a bit of fiddling with the AFC (which I had installed in a hurry about an hour before) we were able to tune it out to 415 HP and 388 ft-lbs of torque. I'm certain that I could have squeezed out an extra 10HP (425HP was my goal) but with no air blowing into the intercoolers and with the heat (95+ degrees) we were starting to lose efficiency. I'll probably go back again later to look for that extra HP I'm missing. Also, next time I'll be armed with race gas and 23 psi to see how that turns out. The percent number next to the maxHP is the percentage of fuel the guy tuning my car took out of the AFC @ 7000RPM's. Of course the lower RPM numbers were adjusted accordingly. I was running super rich @ the high RPMs cuz once it hit about 6000 black smoke would start pouring out the back. At 20% leaner it would still smoke but not as dramatically as at 0%.
Now the bad news. A little background: The car had been making some funny rattling sounds while idling. When I put in the clutch the rattling stops so I tenatively assumed that my throwout bearing might be a bit loose. I made a mental note to work on it sooner or later. On the way home from the dyno today I stopped by the warehouse garage that my buddies and I rent out (also a hangout for us motorheads) to let them see the results. I left to go pick up something from home when I got on the gas in 1st. All of a sudden the car makes some grinding sound and it dies. I crank the motor but it doesnt want to turn over. After a bit of throttle goosing and turns of the key it roared back to life but it would die if I let it idle. I had to give it some gas every second or two in order to keep the car running. The clutch pedal felt really stiff and when I released the clutch the grinding noise would start again but it would still move the car. I limped the car home and now its sitting in the garage. :P From initial evaluation, it seems that my throwout bearing is crapped out somehow. In any case, the transmission will have to be dropped so I can take a look at it. I missed an autocross and a big sports car meet because of this but at least I got my dyno time in and I'm happy with those results.
