Message	I cant remember what the timeframe is, but if you're going to report do it asap. Also, the other Insurance company could take up to 1 year or more to admit fault and pay you - and when they find out that you're not using your insurance co. to pursue the claim, they will jerk you around even more. They're more likely to settle when they know they're dealing with another Insur co. that knows how to leverage state insurance laws. I tried this and got so frustrated I finally gave up and let my N.Y. insurance co. handle it & I paid the deductable. And about 6 months later my insur co was finally able to collect on the claim and reimburse me the deductable. On another claim in NYC 2 yrs ago against a yellow cab company, it took my Insur Co 2 YEARS to collect! The irony is that my first Allstate Insur rep tried to discourage me from filing a claim or reporting it, because he said my Insur would go up. Well, it never did go up. Good luck.
