Be sure to gather all pertinent reciepts to show what you have in the car and its components. Most likely they will not reimburse you adequately so be prepared for that. Dont get upset at the adjuster, he's just doing his job. Think of it more as a game and you are a player. You are playing to see how well you can get the insurance company to take care of you. Have fun with it and be polite to your adjuster. Wait for him to give you an offer, do not make any suggestions initially. You will need to go out to several shops to get estimates. HAve them prepared before you get an offer from her insurance company. Be sure that every item that is damaged gets replaced with new parts, not used or refurbished. Make sure that metal body panels are replaced, not bondoed. It will be expensive, and much more than the adjuster will propose but make sure the shops you go to are fully aware that you want the panels removed and replaced, not bondoed. When the insurance company calls and offers a settlement, as I said before, it will be for much less than your quotes. Let the adjuster know you appreciate his offer and that you have done research of your own. Propose your offers to him and be willing to take the middle of the three price quotes you get. Let them know that you feel that it will be more expensive than their offer, but you are willing to work with them to get things done right. Tell them that you will take it to the body shop which had the middle price and have them repair it and that you will have the repair shop contact them if the "actual repair costs exceed the insurance company's estimate". Remember that the insurance company is giving you an "estimate of repair" and the body shop is "actually repairing the car". Be sure to let the adjuster know that you appreciate how they are handling your claim and that you feel certain that they will ensure both parties are happy. The worst thing you can do for yourself is to get pissy with the adjuster. You WANT them on your side. If their offer isn't good, as you expect it to be, just be prepared by having another professional opinion. That also gives them leverage to work with their own bosses when it comes time to start upping the payout. I believe that if you follow this as I have done over and over again with great success, you too will benefit. And if you act now, I'll even send you a prayer for free, just send $19.95 to..... :) No luck needed here bro, just be cool. : just got rearended by a black 98 durango. the impact was so hard that it literally pushed my car onto the sidewalk. the ww fiberglass front is shattered, my right pirelli tire needs to be replaced, the ENTIRE back is gone. bumper, both taillights, center panel, wing, hatch, etc. the front hood doesn't close right. damn i'm so pissed.
: basically i slowed down because the roads were absolutely terrible due to construction. 3 teenage girls in the durango were following too closely and couldn't stop in time. the girl then had the NERVE to jump out of the car and start yelling at me like it was my fault for slowing down. she hit me dead on from the back. : police came, took the report and there were no conflicts in the story. the only thing she kept saying was that i stopped suddenly, which i DID not do. i slowed down, but i never slammed on the brakes. i explained this to one of the cops and he told me that he understands why i slowed cuz he drives a lowered mustang himself. : guys i never got into an accident with another car like this. how does this process work? if i got rear ended like that its 100% not my fault right? my insurance shouldn't go up right? and who pays for the damage, my insurance co or theirs? do i just get a check or do i have to take it to where the insurance tells me to take it to? i only have basic liability coverage but this is CLEARLY not my fault. btw, i have geico. : sorry for so many q's. this is so frustrating. i just got my ww kit put on maybe 3 months ago. all was pretty much done. and now i have to deal with this crap. trust me guys, having a nice ride in nyc totally blows. i've gotten into 4 hit and run accidents in 2 years. 3 of those times the car was just parked. i can't take this. i'm selling the damn thing and getting a corolla...okay maybe not. : please give me any advice you can. i'm new to this situation and would like your input. thanks so much.
