Subject	Shield behind the flywheel. Is it needed?

Message	Getting ready to put my engine back in and the shield does not align with the trans holes very well and not allowing the bolts to go in straight. Seems to be the small one that bolts to the large one the most. Do people leave it off? If so what is the downside? Thanks!
