Message	with regard to absorbing vibrations (balance not as crucial) and dimensional tolerances (machining accuracy not as crucial). At least that's what I recall. So there are some advantages to journal bearings, especially if machining is not perfect. Ball bearings have less friction, so they can theoretically spool faster.
