Message I know: "Rip it out!" ?? Searched, but most posts are really old.

I'm at 19000 miles on my 96, and would like to keep it as original as possible if I can.

Son put a cassette adapter in last night, and everything was fine until he hit "EJECT." Click click play. Pressed it again. Click Click play. No eject.

Long story short, the tape cage finally came up enough that I was able to pry the cassette out after about 30 minutes of pressing buttons and prying gently. The easy solution is to quit using the cassette function, but an accidental press of any tape button starts "play," killing the radio.

So, my questions: Is anybody still fixing these things? Cost isn't really an issue (to a point). Is anybody familiar with the issue/fix/anything I can look at?

I knew this day would come, but this was a lot earlier than I expected for such an unused unit. I'll go aftermarket if I must, but I'm not digging the options I'm seeing so far. And again, I'd like to stay original if possible.

TIA!
