In my quest to find a backup source for speedometer repair while waiting for Gary to clear his backlog, I was recommended an electrical engineer about 100 miles from my house.
I drove the unit to the Tech's place of work and dropped it off. That evening he examined all the solder points, and checked the components; everything checked out, so Sat he touched-up all the solder points and hooked it up to a power supply setup to actually drive the speedometer. In that testing he found a flaky transistor and was able to order a new part. He tested the unit in an environmental chamber at -40F and 120F and it still worked. I am sure it was touching up the solder points that allowed it to work and find the transistor. I should get it back by late next week and I am confident it will work when I get it in the car. If not I will report back.
