Subject	Lifting rear of car...ok to raise by differential ?

Message	I'm doing some exhaust mods...don't have access to a lift right now....trying to get the car up about 10". Not crazy about jack stands. Ramps would probably work but I might not have the distance in the garage to drive up on them ... does it stress the rear diff to lift the rear of the car there with a good floor jack ? Better way ? Maybe lift, then slide the ramps under the rear tires ? How high before the front lip touches the pavement ?
