When the cost of simple replacement parts becomes prohibitive; only the wealthy or the demented enthusiast will foot the bill to keep them running and on the road. But its breakthroughs like 3-D printer, which will make ownership of older, scarcer models more affordable. I'm currently looking to source an Xk8 vert top part that originally cost $28. NLA, if you can find one new, it will set you back $350; and even serviceable old ones are around $150 used. Sooner or later, people give up and either drive their cars into the ground, or cut their losses and get rid of their cars. Either way, the car usually ends up in the scrap heap and everyone loses.
