Message I recently bought a rebuilt alternator from Pep Boys with a "lifetime warranty". I'm in the midst of troubleshooting a 4 amp current leak with the engine off and it's increasingly likely that the problem lies within this new alternator. No, the PS is not leaking on the alternator! There's a tiny bit of oil on the bottom of the alternator perhaps from the front main seal but it's a very small amount.

I picked up the Pep Boys alternator because I figured at least it's the right size, available, and with a lifetime warranty how bad could it be? I'm tired of wrenching and just want to drive this garage queen so let's go. Yeah, well... a quick search on TT.net brings up this old post making me even more leery of my so-called new alternator.

If this turns out to be my battery eating source what's a good alternative?
