If he had OEM rod bolts, I expect the engine would still be together. There is a tolerance issue with ARP rod bolts in the VG. They are a loose fit in the rod and cap, where the OEM are press fit. The rod cap can walk and tear things up. I won't build a VG with them. That said, if you are hitting for the fence, power-wise, buy a set of Carillos or Pauters and forget about that issue. I just had Pauter build me a set of rods for a Bentley rebuild for less than the cost of two factory rods. No comparison in strength and quality.
