In Reply To Not much has changed on that Frontier since 2005. (n/m) posted by MixManMash on October 28, 2017 at 12:40 AM

Message In reading up on the various options for what I was looking for (my only real criteria was 4wd, V6, "cab-access" doors, and auto transmission....pretty much all standard stuff these days) I found that THIS was the only real criticism of the Frontier and somehow despite being absolutely devoid of substance it was somehow damning.....makes zero sense.

Auto journalism is 99.9% utter drivel....not unlike the rest of "journalism", blabber for blabber's sake. They portray the truck as "being long in the tooth" or "left unchanged since 2005" which in one sense is true but it is put to you as being a negative, as opposed to being "Nissan got it right 12 years ago and hasnt had to change the formula much since".

My last two trucks were Tacomas, one V6 and one 4cyl, both excellent trucks despite being much older high mileage specimens. I went checked out the '17 Tacoma and it is a great truck as well, every bit as good, if not better depending on your preferences (I hate the exterior styling), as the Frontier.....but $10k better? Hell no....Toyota is still garnering a price premium via their brand and not necessarily by delivering additional value to the buyer/consumer.

Now I got a very unconventional deal on my Frontier (which is a story in itself) that netted me a "new" '17 for almost $12-15k less than the equally equipped Tacoma would have cost me even after paying Florida's 6% sales tax on my purchase, but even the average sale price (as reported by TrueCar which despite its flaws is the only real data source available for sale prices) is around $10k difference. There is nothing about the Toyota that warrants a $40k price tag out the door, much less the GM truck which I would not buy based on principle. The coming Ford Ranger might be worth looking into but it's not available yet.

Ultimately I read that same "criticism" of the Frontier and if Nissan had any sense they would simply ignore it, update the tech (engine, transmission, gadgetry) as necessary, and simply market it better.....but we both know Nissan has very little sense and they couldn't market water in the Sahara. I won't even get into how their ABYSMAL dealership system hampers them, and the entire industry as a whole for that matter.
