It's very strong, but not brittle. That's why it's used in extreme aerospace applications. If you don't know what you're doing machining it, it will be surprising. It probably deformed because his cutting tool wasn't especially sharp. I got one of Arubadave's keys but never got around to having it cut. Other than the difference I pointed out, it is very similar to the original key.
