Not that this crossmember is of no importance, but the subframe supports the engine, power steering, and front suspension (lower control arms) and is a thick, heavy piece. The lower core support is a much weaker sheet metal part, with only the caster affected as far as suspension (as you experienced) since its the attachment for the tension rods. Subframe is much more critical as far as safety. Ironically, the true subframe takes less time to replace since it is a bolt-in item. Good job with the repair... definitely a lot of small items to R & R! Nice that you were able to keep the a/c intact since the condenser sits on this crossmember. Also the "fun glue" is called seam sealer-- Its there to prevent rust in the seams and comes in caulk tubes, so make sure you replace it if you have not already.
