Message I wouldn't say overkill at all. Our blocks have very thin main webbing as well as cylinder bores and their is a lot of evidence of block flex at high power levels. Lazcano's drag engine likely has completely filled water passages to strengthen the block in addition to billet main caps. Traditional billet mains will strengthen only the caps themselves, while doing very little to stiffen the rest of the block. Think about this, Nissan used a similar bed plate on the IMSA cars that qualified with over 1000 hp. These engines had to survive at a high power level for hours on end. It's very different from a drag set up that gets used for 6 seconds at a time.
