I've always wondered how a driveshaft is balanced and since I didn't get much response in technical I figured I share a video of how it's done. The driveshaft is mounted in a rig like a lathe. The mid-bearing is also mounted but is free to "float", as is the final drive. The balance is quantified by measuring the runout with the three gauges. If the gauges aren't moving with the driveshaft spinning it's balanced. If not, add weights. The faster you spin the shaft the more pronounced any imbalance would become.
