I noticed my steering was hanging up slightly while on some curvy roads yesterday. I checked the u-joints in the steering shaft first and they were OK. Moved on to the kingpins and one side had a slight amount of slop so I took it apart. Found that the lower bearing had some resistance when pressing on it and turning so I figure it would would be much worse with the weight of the car on it. Cleaned and greased it and the steering was much better.
New bearings and seals on order for both sides. I guess $200 isn't bad since the bearings lasted almost 350k miles especially since these 2 small angular ball bearings support the load for the front end of the car.
