Message I appreciate the knowledge.

From Googling around, I haven't seen a set of the Jspecs with the additional fluting as found on the later sets. I saw that the Diablo has the additional fluting as well. I'm not 100% sure, but the lower nipple seems like it would affect the output. The JDM lenses do not have any nipples.

Doing a retrofit is to update the car with modern day lighting so taking a modern projector and adding it in shouldn't make it any worse for oncoming traffic without the flutes. I just don't see how that would be the case. The projector itself is taking care of all the reflective duty vs the old times where the headlight lense had to be engineered to help. I could be wrong. From what Iceman posted, it's pretty clear how bad the fluting affected the output. Those Jspecs are also so old in technology that I think it's moot to compare it to what's out now and what can he accomplished.

The points on the shroud are all that I've run across already. Ionic "claims" to have done a lot of adjustments to make them fit correctly but I haven't found anyone who has installed them with pics to see for myself. The holes on the OEM shrouds are about 3" with the 2.5" OEM projectors protruding through and it's not that bad with the gaps. With the 4.0's that I bought, they are 3" so it's good to hear that the HID projector is bigger and the Jspec shrouds have bigger holes. Whether they were made smaller in the "corrected" shrouds from Ionic would pose another issue. The 4.0's are also Bixenon so I'm not too worried about the high beam issue if there is any. The Jspecs had smaller high beams because the bottom of the headlight was made to accommodate the ballasts thus the need for the inserts and smaller high beams. That's what I've uncovered.
