This really shouldn't be a debate or a hard decision decision to make. Specialty Z's pan is $595. (PLUS a $175 core!! WOW!!) Its a modified stock oil pan with trap doors and a larger sump, 6qts. Thats it. Note - The trap doors are not oriented in the correction position. They are square. All real competition oil pans have a diamond orientation. EPR's Moroso manufactured pan is $675 (NO CORE CHARGE!!) Brand new, hand built pan - made by Moroso (one of the leading makers of competition oil pans across MANY platforms). Larger capacity that of 8qts. The pan has a built in windscreen to prevent foaming. The orientation of the trap doors are in a diamond formation, the correct way. This pan also includes a brand new larger diameter pick-up tube with a larger surface area suction screen, rectangular design) Note - with any real performance part for a car, sometimes modifications are required to make things fit correctly. And in this case, because of the fact that these pans are hand made, there is a bit of the surface flange that needs to be grinded to clear for one of the crank's counter weights. Thats it. 45 seconds with a grinder. Yup, thats it. So if you look at the features per dollar, best bang for the buck... it shouldn't be a question of which pan to get.
I use the EPR pan on my Z31 with a built VG33 using the bottom end from a z32tt. I made 627rwhp on my last dyno run.
