fuel diluting the oil and added wear on piston rings. Not sure what you run for oil, but if you're short cash and can't afford a proper tune, then I would switch to 15W50 or 20W50 and change it often. You certainly have the right attitude about this - going through the car, making sure everything is right before tuning. As Evan had mentioned, a custom SZ tune would definitely be money well spent.
