Message	My old car's power steering was iffy at best at low speed and over time that caused my steering knuckle joint to loosen up. It gave a total dead zone in the steering wheel (not huge but definitely noticeable) where the steering column would turn the upper portion of the knuckle before transferring that motion to the lower portion and on to the steering rack. I can see having no power steering making this happen pretty rapidly.
