Message The stock air-box was designed to minimize turbulence and provide laminar flow over the MAF element. Air is drawn from behind the fenders and has plenty of time to smooth out before hitting the MAF. With a POP filter, you are eliminating the stock air-box and pulling air from directly in front of the MAF where it is subject to all kinds of turbulence under normal driving conditions. What happens on the street when a gust of wind hits the exposed POP filter sideways? (answer: the MAF readings aren't going to be accurate).

The NA intake piping also has large tubes that connect the pre-filter air piping to the pipes after the MAF. These tubes are actually blocked off internally and act as helmholtz resonators. You'd better believe that Nissan put those there for a reason, and only after extensive testing/tuning of the pressure pulses within the intake. With a POP filter you are losing that benefit.
