Message Yes, there's certainly a weight 'penalty', but that extra weight in the rear helps to center the balance of the car to near 50/50.

The electric drivers seat is a far bigger weight penalty, as are those extra pounds that many of us could benefit from losing. Ninety nine percent of us who track our cars aren't in competition anyway. Additionally, once the initial install is done, you could theoretically remove the bar at the track, as it's only 4 bolts and 4 nuts (if i recall correctly).

All that being said, the benefits of having a tow bar for a track trailer/box, mountain bike, jet-ski, 22 foot motor-home, etc. outweigh a fairly minor weight penalty.
