In Reply To Widebody suspension modifications.... posted by Ash's Z on May 19, 2015 at 02:15 AM

Message There is more traction left on the table from a lack of or improperly setup suspension (corner balance, spring rate, ride height, dampening, rebound, spring preload, etc), tire selection/compound, suspension geometry (ride height, lack of misalignment ends, general alignment settings), than there is from increasing tire width. Additionally there are modifications the the chassis & sub frame that can be done to further improve the geometry of the suspension beyond the available products on the market. These modifications could be considered less evasive than body modifications.

To properly install a wide body kit beyond what you can achieve from rolling the fenders you need to cut, form & weld the multiple layers of sheet metal that form the wheel arch, to move them out of the way of the newer wider wheel/tire selection & their wider sweep of travel.

Additionally there are basically 3 different applications that all benefit from different setups: Street driven, road coarse racing, drag racing. Having a square setup that will work well for one will not work well for the other, etc.
