Message My first experience in a GTR was similar, *BUT* once you get a little more seat time, the GTR experience becomes intoxicating and leaves you wanting more........
It is so *different* than anything else, it absolutely requires getting acquainted with, and learning how to harness what it has to offer.
The more time I spend in the GTR, the more I love the GTR experience!
The car is BIG, but after a little seat time, it feels like a tiny go-cart.
The comment Madhatter made about it needing a Manual gear box, I could not disagree more!!!
The best thing about the GTR in the manual gear box it *has* with the twin clutch!!! The next gear is always selected and just waiting for you engage the clutch!!! You can go up or down with the gears at any time without changing throttle position, the system smoothly engages the gear at the flick of your finger without upsetting the chassis. In R mode you give 2 quick flicks and your 2 gears down!!
The twin clutch IMO is the best of everything because you can have complete control over the gear your in, your still able to drive flat footed, the shifting is seamless and smooth at any throttle input level. Because the car is 4 wheel drive, downshifting allows the engine to brake all 4 wheels allowing ridiculous control at speeds you would never dream possible in a 2 wheel drive car. If you get stuck in traffic, you can let the car auto-shift.
The system has settings that allow you to have 100% control over the next gear change where it will hit the rev limiter, OR you can also select a mode where the gear will up-shift at red line if you forget or if your late.
The available tuning software allows you to set RPM shift points for each gear for the system to auto shift.
I could go on for days about just the transmission!!!!
The more power a car makes, the more you appreciate what the GTR transmission has to offer.
The GTR is mostly rear wheel drive, with traction control off it does drift just like a rear wheel drive car, you steer into the slide the same way and control is the same as a rear wheel drive car, you do not even feel the front helping.... The difference is simply your able to do it much faster and with less pedaling because as the rear wheels slip, it transfers more torque to the front to pull you out of the slide :-)
Did I mention it was intoxicating?!?!
