Message aren't very good either. Not only are they big and bulky, which is why a lot of people want to solder splice, but they also don't support the wire any, don't seal the joint, and are notoriously hard to get a good crimp on. (The other reason people solder) Heat shrinkable connectors are the best way to go. They seal the connection, are much less bulky and take the strain away from the crimp connection.
