Message but still flexible. Soldering wicks solder into the wires and makes them stiff. Where the solder stops becomes the one spot that the wire bends, and it will eventually fatigue and break. You'll see very little soldering done in motorsports and aviation wiring. In fact if you've ever cut open the stock loom, all OE splices are done with crimps as well.
