from both the longer exhaust/intake tract and the fact that you would most likely be running a single larger turbo The turbo would stay much cooler, which means the oil is thinner, which may help spool slightly. You would also have less issues with oil cooking in the turbo lines (rare) A rear mounted turbo setup would be fine for adding HP to an NA car. I would think you can get away running 6-10 psi and making it a fun car. Anything more and you would be better off with a turbo or two up front.
