Message If it shows. Like everyone else is saying, if it is well and properly maintained, it will be reliable.

I always check the normal things:

-Firstly owner, do they know enough about cars to properly notice issues.
-Next, maintenance.
---Is it logged?
---Are repair parts aftermarket or OEM? If aftermarket, are they cheapy aftermarket parts, or are they reliable parts?
---Are all 4 tires matching, and wearing evenly. Mismatched tires is an easy sign that the owner is cutting maintenance costs (generally replacing one tire at a time with the cheapest available)
---Is the car clean?

After that, focus on general condition. Leaks, interior/exterior condition, belts, running smooth, etc.
