Message	70's a lot of cars recommended 10W40 and when fuel efficiency became a big issue, the recommendations changed to 10W30. Now oils are much better and they can get more hp as well as better fuel efficiency with a lighter oil. Lighter oils also help cool engines better. The other side of this argument is newer oils can be lighter in weight and protect as well as the older heavier oils.
