Message Firstly, determine whether you have a water or air problem.

Overheating at a stop but not during highway driving indicates bad coolant flow.

Overheating constantly can be related to bad air or coolant flow.

Long heat up times (time after start up to operating temp) indicates thermostat is stuck open or missing.

Low coolant level, constantly diminishing coolant level indicates a leak in the system (commonly radiator cap, radiator end caps, hoses)
