Message You can request pretty much anything from CP. Of course it comes at a custom price structure but easily obtainable. The JE units mentioned above aren't all that new. They changed to this new design end of last year. I know this because I rebuilt a customers engine that uses the older version 9:1 units that damn near mirror the Wiseco shelf piece.

JE 9:1 units (new replacements, old design)

When I ordered the replacement from JE these new ones came to my door. I immediately was worried because no where on their site mentioned they went to this new design. Luckily they had 17 old style units on hand and a few ring packs left so I scooped them up.

I like the newer design but there are inherent issues with shorter style pistons as well. Couple that with the new Asymmetrical design and you'll need to approach the way you machine/build the block out to suit these new pistons.

They are lighter though which is nice. I don't however like how they reduced the top ring land depth. This is quite vital on forced induction applications. CP has a reduced top ring land but their ring groove and ring pack they use is considerably beefier than all other pistons on the market. JE uses a thin ring pack which is good for friction reduction but gets a bit weak and can be more easily compromised under high boost pressures. The pin bore profiling is nice though. They added pin bore area thickness in the right area around the pad of each side. I suggest ppl look into using krammlox vs regular circlips and if you can have JE cut you a spiral lock channel vs a circlip groove you'll have a better side load and surface area contact on the pin to retain it within the bore. There have been instances where the circlip will bump out of the groove under severe load (not common but does happen) Bin bore oil drain isn't incorporated either which concerns me a bit as anytime you have an area of feed you need an area of exit. I had to drill drain ports in the JUN/Cosworth pistons Im using on this JUN stroker engine Im in the middle of completing now. I wish more manufactures would take more ques from CP with how they do their oiling approaches to the pin bore etc. Overall though the newer design from JE is a fresh new start for them in the sport compact sector for their offerings. The trick is to get them to release the new cage design and see how they will hold up on a well machined/assembled block.
