Message First, what is wrong with your existing engine. In some cases, having it rebuilt may be the best solution.

Second, do not buy a used JDM engine unless you can verify compression & leak down numbers.

As for years, 90-93 are identical matches. 94+ would have a different cam angle sensor, intake cams and intake cam gears. Basically, the overall length of the cam is shorter and the cam gears are adjusted because of this. 95+ would have different fuel injectors (connectors are different), different lower intake manifold and the cylinder heads are different - all because of the change in the fuel injector style.
