Message I decided to take my (slightly modded) 96 "base model" out for an early spring runabout ....

In case you missed LJs commentary on slicktops: La-Z-Link and La-Z-Link

Pulling the car cover off I thought, "...she doesn't look like an 18 year old car ...Certainly doesn't look "undesirable"...LJ you elitist bastard :-)..."

Maybe it's the Stillen lip?
Or the smooth flowing lines?
Or the hours that my paintless dent rapair guy spent going over every single panel on the car?
Or the fresh window and roof moldings (expensive but a nice touch)?
Or the 18 inch wheels (8.5 inch up front and custom widened to 9.5 out back)?
Is that lower than stock?

Hopping into the drivers seat I thought, "...interior still feels pretty modern..." as my iPhone 5 automatically Bluetoothed to the Kenwood head unit. "... Undesirable? WTF?..."

Maybe it's the freshly wrapped "Greavous" leather steering wheel?
Or the brand new OEM radio bezel?
Or the aforementioned updated head unit? (Nah that's cheating)
Maybe it's the factory DIGITAL climate controls? - I guess "somebody" was wrong about that :-)

I had forgotten how nice and comfy the upgraded-for-95-96 uber-soft base model "terry-towel" interior is when compared to earlier base model cloth interiors. Glad I didn't swap it out for leather as originally planned.

As I let it warm up a bit I thought "... sure sounds nice, idles nice, no sign of leaks..."

Maybe it's the combo of the SpecialtyZ 3" expansion downpipes and 3-2.5" stainless steel testpipes?
Maybe its the (NLA) old school 2.5 inch Stillen Exhaust ?
(I know LJ - If I ditched that 'pig" I could probably make an extra dozen rwhp...but I like it)

Maybe it's the fresh 120k maintenance, fluids and seals?
Maybe it's the SpecialtyZ tune and once over that she got last fall? Probably.
(or was that two years ago now already?)

Maybe it's the brand new 95+ OBD1 wiring harness?
Or the new TT fuel pump?

After ripping around a bit I thought "...Doesn't "feel" very "base model" or "undesirable"...", "...feels pretty freakin' good..."

Maybe it's the full breather mods?
Or the inaugural set of AshSpec VBand GT28RS turbos?
Or the (nearly) 500 rwhp on pump gas?

Maybe it's the Powertrix coilovers?
Or the adjustable tension rods?
Or the beautifully shifting 98+ spec 5-speed tranny?
Or the "base model" 4.08 NA gearing?
Or the StopTech brakes?

Maybe it's those fresh (although poorly fitting) subframe bushings?
(NTD: Need to write a road test review on those still).
Or the fresh steering rack bushings?

It's really hard to say.

When all was said and done, "we" had a great afternoon ripping around. At the end I snapped a single cell phone pic of her - filthy, driven, used:

I call her SlickTTop. You can call her whatever you like LJ :-)

PS>>> Oh, and by the way LJ, my son also owned a 1990 240sx SE fully loaded with power everything and ABS brakes. We just sold it last week. As we let it go we took a hard look at it, side by side with my PGY 1990 stock slicktop to see how both designs had stood the test of time - not even close LJ...not even close.
