Message I misspoke earlier. They are not regular 2560 compressor wheels machined out of billet.

I finally got to speak with Turbos Direct, the manufacturer of the billet wheels and turbos for Concept Z Performance in the above-mentioned kit.

Turbos Direct takes an off-the-shelf Garrett turbo (in this case, a 2560) and removes the cast compressor wheel. They then install their billet version of the 2560 wheel, balance it, and package it up. (Swapping compressor wheels is pretty common).

Here is the important part - they are NOT exact replicas of the Garrett cast wheel. As we have previously discussed, if it were an exact replica of the cast wheel, just machined out of billet, it would offer no performance gain whatsoever and would be a waste of money.

So what's the difference? When you machine turbo compressor wheels out of billet, they are stronger than their equivalent cast counterparts. This means that you can make the base of the wheel smaller without sacrificing strength. If the base of the wheel is smaller (thinner), then the fins of the compressor get larger without changing the exterior dimension. You get a bigger wheel, without having to change the compressor housing size. That's what Turbos Direct does. They also change the tips of the fins slightly as well as some other proprietary stuff. They mount to the unmodified compressor housing exactly the same, no machining required. They estimate that all this trickery yields a conservative 10% gain in power over their cast counterparts.

So what's the deal?

CZP probably shouldn't call it a "GTX" turbo, just a billet compressor wheel with some other tidbits that add power.

CZP should probably know more about the product they're selling before they put it on their website or make claims about the design.

CZP offers these billet compressor wheel turbos in both the GT2560 and the OEM stock turbos.

Should they have been more accurate in their naming and description? Sure. But lets try to focus on the fun new product being offered to the Z community instead of being a bunch of whiny pudknockers.
