Message Your method of putting in exactly 5 gallons of gas isn't exactly accurate, because you would have to run all the fuel out to know exactly how much you used. I can understand though, if you put in less gas because you drive the car less frequently, like I do.

Better way to get MPG is to fill your tank completely full every time. That way, you know if you filled up with 12.1 gallons this time and then 14.3 next time, all you do is MPG = gallons/miles
