| 1) The cylinder walls are very thin 2) The proximity of head bolts to the cylinder make the cylinders very prone to distortion when heads are installed The more meat you take out of the cylinders the more likely you are going to get distortion.
Also, the design of the pistons and the rings comes into play. I'm not familiar with the specifics but I know certain designs are more forgiving in that they conform to cylinder distortion better than others.
