Lutz did not screw up GM, he took over in 2001 to unfuck a mess that could only ever be partially resolved without a bankruptcy....a path he did everything to avoid. He does not control the price of oil, therefore fuel, and GM simply cannot make small fuel efficient cars AND a profit when gas goes up to $4-5/gal and consumers shift to fuel efficiency. Trucks and SUVs are the only vehicles marked up enough to keep GM afloat. All that has taken place since his departure, is the snooze button got hit. It is simply a matter of how long it will take for them to return to exactly where they were in 2008. They got to shaft a lot of people who gave them a lot of money to keep them afloat and those who should have gotten the shaft got bailed out in exchange for political loyalties. Mafia government on parade for all to see. The only point Lutz made in the interview was that they were finally taking SOME steps in the right direction, and one of those steps was to actually do something with Pontiac to make it a unique GM brand with specific appeal to car guys/gals, as opposed to a redundant brand with empty slogans.
