Message So much of the electric industry is based on power demand, fuel supply, and fuel cost. Sure, solar is "green power", but still too expensive for the power it generates. Obama and the EPA are going to damage long term energy production in the US with such a quick jump in regulations. Coal plant modifications, costing sometimes hundreds of millions of dollars, can't keep up with the new laws coming out. And eventually it just becomes more tempting to shut them down. But what does that do to the power grid? There has got to be a mix of generation. Nuclear units are typically base-load (they don't fluctuate, mostly either they're off, or at 100%), hydro is the cheapest, but what if it's been dry? Coal and Gas is where most of the load swing comes in, but those are the types of fuels being largely attacked by the administration.
I could go on and on, but my point is there is a much bigger picture. It's much more complicated than just "close those dirty fossil plants and go Green Power!"
The first thing all those tree-huggers should do, is voluntarily shut their own power off.

Conversation between my sister and my wife (shortly before we
got married):
Wife: "You know, sometimes I think he loves that Z more than he
does me."
Sister: "He probably does, and as long as you're okay with that,
everything will be fine."
