| If you put it in reverse when the car is facing uphill, the car will roll backwards the moment you let off your brakes (assuming no handbrake is applied). Same with putting it in a forward gear when it's facing downhill. Also I agree with Shiers - 1st gear won't require as much kinetic energy to move the car as a higher gear will. Might as well put it into a higher gear when the car is not facing downhill.
