TT Verts are awesome. Salvaged vehicles are not. (n/m) posted by Aqualung on August 21, 2013 at 10:57 AM |

Everything should be weighed after inspection of the vehicle. I opted to buy a salvage E36 sedan that was rebuilt for my DD at a significant discount to market and couldn't be more pleased. Since San Francisco is famous for bumper scuffs, horrible drivers, and parallel parking morons I wasn't looking for a show car but something I enjoyed that performed and looked decent at the same time. It was hit in the front, purchased from insurance company and repaired. The car looked good and had some nice upgrades so I went to take a look. After visually inspecting frame, tire wear, body panel fittings, etc I was able to get it for probably 60% of what other cars were selling for at the time. I now have an additional 80K miles on it and it has been an excellent car. That being said...I have no idea what is involved with the convertible parts you are contemplating here so definitely rely on other folks advice in that arena. However, if you are looking for a decent car I wouldn't necessarily rule out salvage title vehicles unless you are set on resale value. A thorough inspection and some research is definitely required, naturally.
