Message	indications on the box, device, anything that state if it's a "V1" or "V2". People complain on other forums of buying the device brand new from a retailer and it being a V1 and there really is no way of telling except plugging it in. Seems like there was a revision in the OS, but you could very easily get the wrong box without the retailer knowing. I'm bloody annoyed at mostly the UI, but it does have some badass features!
