Message I have a hard time seeing how it would have a salvage title because of a broken top.

I would go a vin check on it to see the history and damage. If the body is damaged in any way the car is worthless because it is so important these cars are put back together correctly.
Now on to the top: The pieces can be welded back together but have to be done correctly.
If you do get the car, you might be better off finding a salvaged top frame if you can. Of course, all the rubber will need to be replaced. Then the top will probably have to be replaced.

So it sounds to me like on top of what they are asking, you are looking at spending about $1000 or more just on replacing the fabric top and all the weatherstripping. That isn't including the cost of a replacement top frame or welding the frame correctly.

If it were me, and my money, I would take the previous posters advice and put your money on another convertible that is a better bet. There are a good number of reasonable mileage convertibles for sale in a variety of colors on any given day that have nothing wrong with them body or top wise.
