Cut out the "middleman" organization whenever possible. I have found that the "instruction" that takes place typically at these events is at least as amateur as the drivers doing the driving. If you truly want/need to learn, you should pony up the cash and attend a no-shit performance driving school for a weekend or two and get the basics under your belt. You'll get a lot more out of it and you wont be wasting your time at HPDE's with some guy riding shotgun who may be a skilled driver but not a skilled instructor.
