Message I attended the street rod association meet in Louisville last weekend. 12,000 cars in attendance and 100s of vendors. While there were many cars to be gotten for 30 to 60K, $100,000 would not be enough to build, say a '32 Ford on a custom modernized chassis with an all-metal body.

While my enthusiasm for this hobby has never wavered, recently the financial aspects of these builds have begun to bother me.

Take for instance my 1994TT. 54,000 miles, OEM paint and a few mods. Wheels, brakes, EBC, intake and exhaust. Let say for argument sake that I could find a buyer for $15,000. The car needs a radio upgrade, new tires and some seat work. Those improvements will cost around $3,000, not going too crazy on the sound system.

I could also intall some JWT530BB turbos and MSI manifolds for another, say $3500. I would then have over 20K in the car but its market values would stay at 12 to 15K. In fact, I could spend 10,000 on mods and improvements and the value would be unchanged.

And while all this seems like an insane proposition, I am still not persuaded to stop and refocus my hobby interests.
