Message "We have done a lot of testing, the front half being larger with the expansion pipe is HUGE for low end power gains and spool.
The turbo works off the difference in temperature and pressure of each side of the turbine wheel. More heat and more pressure before the wheel, less heat, less pressure after the wheel is what drives the turbine.
The exhaust is hottest coming from the turbo and requires the most room, this is why the expansion pipe works so well, it establishes direction of flow, provides a low pressure cooler area for the exhaust to flow.
The full 2.5" exhaust from turbo back has 6 psi backpressure in the downpipe at 15 PSI boost on stock turbos, the 3" that cones to 2.5" has zero to 1/2 a PSI up to 500RWHP and 20 PSI boost with larger turbos. Above 500 HP and above 20 PSI boost, the cone to 2.5" cat back causes increased backpressure above 6000 RPM, the higher the power, the more power is reduced in the higher RPM.

The reason you can run smaller cat backs is because the exhaust cools the farther it travels, the exhaust condenses as it cools requiring less room. So for under 500HP you only need a 2.5" cat back."

I had the same questions you and everyone else has so I asked the boss.

"torque gets you off the line...& hp gets you over the line." -
